Birdwatching
The Amazon rainforest around the Berraco EcoCamp is home to countless tropical birds. Our most dedicated bird watchers wake before sunrise to hike our Mirador (Lookout) Trail, accompanied by an expert guide. You are immediately surrounded by the sights and sounds of an awakening jungle, spotting birds like hoatzin and horn screamers as they stir for their morning meals.
In the afternoon, we traverse primary and secondary rainforest along the banks of the Tuichi River for spectacular views of mixed flocks of birds. Orange bellied tanagers, ant birds and toucans are just a few of the birds that nest in these rainforests. At night, it’s possible to see spectacled owls, pygmy owls and nighthawks in the primary forest along our Palmero Trail.
Our guides are trained in bird identification and have a keen sense for spotting the local species. We encourage our guests to bring binoculars and/or telescopes for birdwatching tours.
