The EcoCamp
Accommodation

EcoCamp Madidi National Park
Built in 2008, the EcoCamp offers three private Tacana huts. Each hut is constructed with local materials in the traditional thatched-roof style. The open-air platform is equipped with a tent in which a single or double bed is prepared with fresh linens. There are not many mosquitoes in the EcoCamp, but the tents are sealed just in case. The huts are also furnished with Adirondack chairs, tables and hammocks.
A short walk from the huts, the communal bathrooms contain clean showers and flush toilets. The local stream provides natural water for washing. The water is not heated but after long treks in the jungle, most of our guests prefer it that way! We offer bottled water and juice squeezed from jungle fruits for drinking.

The Dining Room
The dining room and attached kitchen are also modeled after a traditional Tacana hut. Guests come together to share meals or lounge in hammocks in the communal area. Our rustic camp is ideal for total immersion in the Amazon at night and as we have not cleared the surrounding trees, there is a greater chance of spotting wildlife – including tapirs and peccaries – right from your hammock!
Next to the dining area, a small garden yields native fruits and vegetables. Our staff cooks three meals a day for our guests using the garden bounty and other locally available produce.
The dining area is equipped with a generator-powered electrical outlet (220v). Guests are invited to charge their cameras.

Rainforest Trails
Around the EcoCamp, there are 10 different trails, totaling over 40km. Each trail features special attractions like behemoth trees, meandering streams, and medicinal plants. One trail leads to a wildlife viewing platform above a clay lick; a mud pit where animals converge to feast the earth’s natural mineral salts. The salts in the clay lick counteract the acidic fruits that these jungle-dwellers ingest daily. Perched above the jungle floor, we wait for los chanchos, the hordes of wild jungle pigs, to make their frequent visit to the clay.
The Berraco guides lead day, night, and multi-day hikes for our guests. Our trail guides are all from the local community and bring their extensive experience and professionalism to each adventure tour. Click here to find out more about our hiking excursions.
